Shoplifting suspect fleeing from police causes wreck in Lexington
LEXINGTON, S.C. (WIS) - A shoplifting suspect fleeing from law enforcement caused a wreck in Lexington.
The incident happened Thursday afternoon near the KFC and Long John Silver’s parking lots on North Lake Drive, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Nicholas Snipes was arrested for shoplifting enhanced, reckless driving, failure to stop for blue lights, hit-and-run (occupied vehicle), failure to obey a police officer, resisting arrest and driving without a license. Snipes was also wanted by Probation, Parole and Pardon, according to police.
The shoplifting suspect drove his vehicle into the rear of the truck in the drive-thru and then fled from the crash on foot across the parking lot. Police say a detective was attempting to stop Snipes who he believed had just been involved in a shoplifting incident. Snipes ran his car into the back of a truck in the drive-thru and then ran away, according to officers.
The man in the car Snipes is accused of striking was not injured. Snipes received minor injuries during the incident. He was arrested by officers shortly after.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
Snipes is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
